Assassin's Creed II: Discovery To Make Use of DSi Camera

Handheld spin-off also launching alongside home console editions

It's just been confirmed that the DS version of Assassin's Creed II will make use of the DSi's camera to enable players to put their own faces on wanted posters within the game.

Thankfully it hasn't been stated that the game is a DSi-only release, so owners of the DS and DS Lite should still be able to join in with the fun - although they won't have the luxury of being able to plaster their ugly mugs inside the gameworld, obviously.

It's also been announced that the DS version will be shipping at the same time as the home console versions - namely 20th November in Europe and 17th November in North America.

The DS version won't be covering the same events as the 360/PS3 editions, though - it will see the game's protagonist Ezio taking flight to Spain in order to help out some fellow assassins.

"it will see the game's protagonist Ezio taking flight to Spain in order to help out some fellow assassins." He's a helpful old soul, isn't he? How's he going to fly to Spain though, considering it's set in the 15th Century?

shouldn't we want DSi only releases now? validate it as a handlheld and all, plus it's more powerful/capable

@wanderlustwarrior : more powerful? Yes, but only a little bit. So, they have to be mad in order to 'ban' DS/DSLite-users.

It's a small thing but a really cool thing to include in a game. Nintendo needs to encourage more of this from their developers, these kind of niche things expands the market. All they'd have to do then is improve their promotions so we don't end up with another Corruption fiasco. This online promotion here for a FREE wii, this is something Nintendo should do more often and for individual games to generate buzz.

@invmat: I'm not saying " 'ban' " DS/DSLite-users; don't quote as if I were. Having been a DSLite owner myself, with friends who still are, I realize how much that might suck.

What I will say is that with the DSi having the better part of a year in age, while exclusive titles to it will be coming out in a few months, it would need an actually significant titles, which Assassin's Creed is, to justify launching it both when they did, and at all.

It's cool to see your pictures that you took with your DSi camera on games.

@invmat: the DSi has twice the CPU power in both CPUs and has 4 times the amount of RAM. I won't call that "a little bit".

@SanderEvers: so that's the stats! I knew it was significant, but my busy (read: lazy) self couldn't be bothered to remember the stats.

@Dark_Zelda: Simple answer really: it won't sell. I wish it weren't true, but action games not published by Nintendo tend to sell quite poorly on Wii. And they barely sell on the DS, too. Which is a damn shame, cause it would work quite well with the control scheme they'd first thought up for the series (more tactile commands instead of the normal button presses)

@wanderlustwarrior

Not selling isn't completely true. Yes action games tend to sell less on the Wii platform but it also doesn't costs as much. If the game was done by a smaller yet no less talented team, they could potentially make consideral profit at 500,000 units. No More Heroes and The Conduit are good examples of this.
