Pokémon Black & White aren't just offering new features like online video chat, three-on-three battles and seasonal gameplay: two of the biggest new additions are slapped right on the front of the box. Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom take centre stage on the game's box art, but how did Pokémon master Ken Sugimori craft the two new titans?
Contemplating polar opposites, Sugimori thought of "man versus woman" and settled on different silhouettes, with Game Freak director Junichi Masuda giving specific instructions: the Pokémon had to be cool. Sugimori used straight lines instead of curved lines, with a focus on "sharpness" to bring the cool creatures to life. The crowning glory for each monster, Sugimori says, is the thick tail that emphasises their powerfulness.
These two new Pokémon promise to be the ultimate goal for new trainers to catch when Pokémon Black & White launch in North America on March 6th, with a European release on March 4th. We'll have a full review of the new games available before launch.

Reshiram would still benefit from not having a feathered bra, and that other large feathered part isn't exactly well-placed wither.
He's talking about the straight lines making them look more life like, but I can't really say I agree with that. They look frozen, and when i fight them I highly doubt they will move at all. how can they really move when they're that stiff? By the way, those look like a couple of digimons. That's not positive.
I can definitely see the "male versus female" differences when looking at Reshiram.
One farting fire and the other one with a turbine in the a**!
@2: All Pokémon are fully animated in battle this time around.
I think this is work well done. The legendary ones have been on the cover for every gen except the 1st, so they have a big impact on the reception of the games (not that pokemon would need that much 'intorducing').
I really love how the games' all-around atmosphere has been influenced by the legendary duos and the covers (very much like music albums!). It would be silly to imagine G/S without the majestic birds or R/S without the South-American indian -stylish monsters. D/P are the grey sheep in this flock, I think, but hey were well received too. It's great to see how the actual game consoles have their images also strongly associated with the legendary pokemon included in their games. To me, Kyogre and Groudon are the ambassors of GBA and so on...
Man, I'd love to ramble about this subject for hours!
I guess Reshiram would be the woman (except for that one odd protrusion) and Zekrom would be the man, though I've preferred Reshiram ever since I first saw them. I actually think these are some of the best looking Legendaries to come in a long time. A lot better than Palkia and Dialga, that's for sure. I like the starter Pokemon as well. Oshawott, I choose you!
(For the record, I do actually like these legendaries. I just think Reshiram could do without the rampant pubic hair)
@1
Umm... Yeah. I'll pass on this one. I've pretty much passed on every Poké-game, and wound up playing my little brother's. Looking forward to retro goodness on the VC though, and hoping for an awesomelicious 3D remake or whatever of an older game! I only wish that Nintendo would just let go of the concept, and just give us every Pokémon there is in one game... Okay, fine TWO versions of the game!
Those are tails? I thought they were jet engines at first...
@Burn They are...how else do you think they'd fly.
I prefer how Groudon and Kyogre looked on the boxart, to be honest. These two aren't bad... and Palkia was the ugliest.
That white one looks like chicken. The black one´s cooler, was that Zekrom?
On serebii.net you can see all the avatars for all the new pokemon, and reshiram and zekrom look pretty cool in battle. (reshiram looks slightly cooler)
The quote "the thick tail that emphasises their powerfulness" is almost weird enough to be my signature. Almost.
Since legendary pokemon are not use for online battle.
I really don't care for them.
I do want to see this new 3-on-3 battle.
Meh, I never use Legendaries anyways. Takes away the challenge from the Pokemon games.
the names sound like something out of hebrew
Ugh...you know how tempted I am to make a joke that I shouldn't make, Sugimori? VERY!!! Stop making me want to insult you in new ways, Pokemon!
Zekrom is definitely the better-looking legendary...
Reshiram. has. a. wang.
Is getting both regardless of how they look. Its interesting to think he used the man vs woman opposites. I wonder what the next combination will be.
Reshiram has pubic hair? Oh, there, had to look for it. What kind of pervs are you, concentrating on such things? I think they're cool. Why contrivedly think of negative things?
Go Zekrom!
"It" (since most legendaries don't have genders) just looks cooler than Reshiram.
I haven't played a pokemon game since the ancient blue (and gale of darkness on gcn, though not sure that counts ), but i think i might pick this up with the system!
sharp lines instead of curves to "look cool"? No wonder the designs of the new pokemon suck. They try too hard and most don't even look like animals anymore with all their weird shapes and designs on them. But it IS pokemon, and the game will be highly addicting.
"The thick tail that emphasizes their powerfulness" yeah kinda like people carrying big objects to compensate for their small you-know-whats? I think I'll wait for the third (and always best of its generation) game to come out next year: Pokemon Gray!
can Game Freak please make another pulseman game?
i'm just gonna wait to get the gray version
Reshiram! Pokemon! Black!
I do not like Zekrom. It is too black!
I like the graphics of the towns...still not gonna get it
I can't decide! =(
They both look pretty awesome, so I kinda want them both...
Reshiram and Zekrom are equal in my opinion. But I think I like Zekrom a little better.
