If you love The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and the Nintendo 64 classic, Ocarina of Time, then you absolutely have to take a look at the mod in the video above.
Zelda fan and modder BigSharkZ has assembled a video showing off a similar but different version of Ocarina of Time powered by Wind Waker.
Although it started out as part April Fool's joke, part "proof of concept", the plan now is to release it as a proper mod pack:
"While it is not a full or brand new game, all that was showcased here will someday be made available in the form of a mod pack! This video was made in two weeks with very little sleep, as a proof of concept to show some of what can be done with Wind Waker modding."
"However, please understand that this is a very large amount of work for a single person (Over a hundred hours were spent working on this, for example) and that my free time is often limited, so it will take a while to have a proper release, especially when I have many other projects in the works."
As you can see in the trailer, Malon is even a playable character and you can fly around as a Cucco!
What do you think of this Wind Waker crossover with Ocarina of Time? Tell us down below.

Sadly, it's not the full game I'm pretty sure. Kind of wish they would've modded the full game with this texture pack, since it looks really awesome.
Looks really great. I look forward to the completed mod pack
Play as Malon? Hell yeah.
Wow, that’s some brilliant work. Even just the trailer is massively impressive if it doesn’t ever fully release.
This looks great!
did the legs always look so weird in Wind Waker?
This actually excited me!
Wish the color palette could be more accurate to windwaker’s brighter and simpler colors
Didn‘t expect it to look that good, but the style really works for OOT.
NO NINTENDO LIFE WHYYYYYY your helping nintendo catch wind of stuff like this.
Wish Nintendo would make a compete reimagining of oot on the scale botw. Just give the game for someone else to work on Nintendo.
Ooohhh the nostalgia 😍 it looks amazing. I really really hope Nintendo have something special/exciting up their sleeve for the Zelda celebration 🤞🏻
OMG! WON'T SOMEBODY THINK ABOUT THE TIMELINE!!!
(hehe, this is lovely. Windwaker is such a gem.)
Man I should have read that it'll never be a full game before I watched the trailer and got really excited. It looks awesome and I'll now forever wish it were real.
Pales in comparison to this though, doesn't it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wL_bnvOgOI&list=PLg7zPm4FXpT1kv503U5GKmiMIZu3X-g6B&index=3
Modders put more effort and time into Nintendo ports.
this is way better than those "X Game in Unreal" Videos!
Looks interesting, but I actually feel like OOTs more mature style had more charm.
That's cool.
I need to break out the 3DS and play Ocarina again. It's my second all time favorite game, after BotW.
Sweet! Looking forward to messing around in it
id play it. much better than most projects
@Boxmonkey
Nintendo would rather spend less money to release us a simple upscaled port of OoT or OoT3D (at full price lol), ESPECIALLY considering other Zelda games are in need of reimaginings/remakes, like the Oracle games and DS games.
@ModdedInkling
Well, as the Engine is set up for such Games, they could use it to Remake the Oracle Games.
Not that it is "no work" to make more Assets etc. but it is less work at least
A whole new Idea as in Between Worlds would be nice
But that would be to much for the Oracles, as they are already set up with the Time/Seasson Gimick.
@Rohanrocks88
Yep, a good Artstyle survives the Test of Time way better that "realistic Graphics".
Not only Nintendo learned that Lesson, also Blizzard.
Starcraft 2 looks still good and Skyward Sword also.
Maybe a " pastel" Remake of Ocarina of Time would it make easier to keep it good over Time.
Malon in the cow hood has to be the cutest thing I've seen in ages.
@Ravenmaster Nintendo are a good 50 years away from reaching that level lol.
They're so behind in texturing it is embarrassing, but I guess that's why they now stick to simple colours now.
@Azuris well, not so fast partner. Don't pile all games in with Nintendo's disasterous attempts at realism.
There are many games with 'realistic' graphics, produced in the last 20 years that look artistically great today.
Nintendo realism was never good because they can't create textures above a few smudges for *****. They're better sticking to toon texturing.
Prime example - Twilight Princess on GCN - it was as horrifically textured as OOT which was a disgrace compared to Banjo Kazooie in 1998!!! TP is arguably the worst textured game of all time, hence why Nintendo employed Straight Right to remaster it on Wii U - and it looks stunning.
The GCN had the best texturing capability in its generation, Rogue Squadron, Star Fox et all had bump mapping, everything... and TS2 even had it along with impressive texture detailing lol.
Then Nintendo release Twilight disgust. Atleast it put them straight.
I'm all for a playable Malon in a future Zelda-game.
@Ravenmaster To each their own, but to me those Unreal Engine concept videos are horrible. Bloom is set to 200%, animations are weird, and the whole look of it betrays the intended art style.
Nintendo seems to have a lot of really talented fans. They should hire some of them to make new games.
@Ravenmaster Here, let me help you with that:
Saves people from having to load a YouTube page...
As for if it actually looks better, though...
I suppose it's up to each individual and his or her personal taste. For me, although they can look good, there's always something kinda "off" with these Unreal videos. Perhaps because they also often use standard, in-engine items and assets, that don't necessarily fit in with the game itself.
Does Link not grow in this when he gets the Master Sword? I mean, Wind Waker's Hyrule Castle actually shows the grown Hero of Time in WW style IIRC.
@ThanosReXXX Yeah i hear what you're saying. This other mod looks little more in the spirit of the original: https://youtu.be/L_Qmig8nf3A?t=52
@Ravenmaster Yeah... I'd still prefer the original. Flat textures and blocky characters and all.
By the way: if you want to know how to make videos appear straight away, instead of having these annoying .be links that you need to click on, here's how to do it:
[ youtube : L_Qmig8nf3A ]
Get rid of all the spaces in that command line, and the video will show up:
EDIT:
Just watched that video entirely. Man, what a bloody annoying voice that guy has. I have to wonder about the 9K subscribers...
His camera work is also excruciatingly bad. He's moving in all directions all the time, it didn't make for a pleasant experience watching it.
STOP writing about these mods. Because of these articles Nintendo can find them easier and takes them Down!!!
Can't they put it as an add-on to Wind Waker itself? in the one area where you see a bit of hyrule. Couldn't they change the area to ocarina of time hyrule?
This mod looks incredible! I am beyond impressed. Makes me crave a real Nintendo version of this plus a little extra new content!
@liveswired You really don't like Nintendo do you? Which kinda begs the question....why are you even here?
gets up in the morning...just after mum brings him his cornflakes...
"Urgh. Nintendo's really really really really annoying me right now. I'd better let them know on Nintendolife. 😡"
I wish I had similar life goals.
Hurray for the Windwaker style. Still it feels a bit empty. Love to play this however.
A Wind Waker style skin should be an unlockable feature on every Zelda game. I dream of a Breath of the Wild environment done in the Wind Waker style.
Ocarina of Toon. I'd play it.
Or Minish Tracks.
Or Link Between Oracles.
Or Skyward Four Sword.
Or Majora's Awakening.
Or.. You get the idea.
Aw man, great work...
Welp. Guess it's time to throw away my 3ds cartridge
