Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Trace Memory

Neither's great but I feel like the American cover benefits tremendously from zooming in the art to look more ominous and the more minimalist background. Also Trace Memory is just so much better of a title.

The summary of the game on the North American one is unnecessary, but the rest of the image's composition is much more interesting. The perspective is way better, Ashley's shoulder being infront of the DS banner, her head is behind the logo, and because she's further forward her hand reaching out feels more impactful. The title Trace Memory is more representative of the game, but Another Code sounds a lot more mysterious.

These are so wildly different.. its so hard to choose..

Joking aside I kinda don’t love either, they feel a bit uninspired.

I prefer the European box art, it looks nicer having the actual island in the background instead of it being blank. The US box art is trying too hard to look mysterious and it's too cluttered with all the text everywhere. Also, the zoomed out portrait of, Ashley, looks far better than the close-up on the US box art, in my opinion.

Why does the article prioritise the name Trace Memory when the series is called Another Code in Japan and Europe and was changed to Trace Memory for America?

I picked the European box art as the name is better, the art hasn't been zoomed in on and the background is more representative of the game.

especially since the upcoming remake version is called Another Code in all regions, right?

I suppose it doesn't matter though. It's fine to call the game Trace Memory, because that is a valid title for it in one of the regions it was released.

No Japanese box art?

The problem of the title Trace Memory is that more often than not I've seen it being called Tracy Memory.

Having said that, I cannot decide which box art I like more.
Guess I'll leave that for later.

Can you imagine that when it was announced back on Nintendo World 2004 it was gonna be called just Another? I wonder how it would've fared with that title

I 100% agree with this, Recollection's box art is so beautiful.

I like Europe's is just a bit better. I feel like it conveys the feeling of being alone a bit better, like she's reaching out to something or someone but that thing she's reaching out for isn't there.

The US one is cool but the EU one gives an actually not very good but still better idea of the game's atmosphere. I voted for the EU.

The second game on the wii has a much better boxart that really makes a better job.

They're both not that great, but I went with EU as I prefer the zoomed out shot of the protag.

It's not even really EU box art though. It's JPN art, and instead of merely giving EU top billing incorrectly, NL decided to excise any mention of Japan all together. For shame.

Trace Memory because its a better name imo.

This is some of the most unattractive box art imaginable.
The Switch version actually made me curious about the game, while I wouldn’t even have given de DS versions a second look on store shelves.

PAL/JP one for me this week, 'cause it has island in the background and the game wasn't retitled to «Trace Memory». Game's original title has more meaning than that boring «Trace Memory».

The NA image "tracing memory" does it for me. Less is more mysterious for me.

If you removed the "find traces of your past" and only left the background writings, it would be perfect

NA. the text description was the difference for me.

I think the EU one is the best. Better title, and better background, and not so busy as the US one.

Also I like the Switch box art the best.

I voted europe but i was really 50/50 tbh

This one is an easy European variant vote for me. I preferred the zoomed out art, gray background.

Voted for the NA one because I do not like the white outline/horizontal lines combo that the EU one has.

Easy NA, not to mention when you were a teen buying this with a parent would make it awkward if you needed to explain why you wanted the game with the girl and exposed midriff on the cover.

I remember buying Trace Memory when I was a senior, it was all thanks to Brawl and trying to recreate the hype after playing all the Ace Attorney titles available at the time.

NA's zoom allows you to appreciate the art better, which is always nice.

NA for me simply due to the framing. The zoomed-in image has far more impact. The Euro cover has far less feeling due to the composition. The island in the background does very little as well.

They're both bad tbh

This was probably the hardest brawl for me in quite some time. I really like the overall look of the European co cover better. That being said, I think the title TRACE MEMORY is better, and I like the little blurb on the cover about finding your memories. That would have got me to pick up the box back in the day and flip it over. I probably would have just walked by the European cover, even though it looks good. For these reasons, I chose the NA cover.

Call me the smash announcer because ima be yelling no contest on this one. This is a childhood game I got from my dad but never really understood and put down but that box sticks in my mind so hard so I had to go with that one. Can’t wait for the remake.

This is a pretty close race, even if the NA cover is more eye catching, but I voted for the European. I have really great memories about this game but I also have been disappointed by the Wii sequel, that was way too slow...

Europe for me. The background of the Island is important which features central in the game. The NA one is more plain than "ominous" to me. I prefer the name "Another Code" over "Trace Memory" as well. The latter sounds more like PART of a game title than a title for a game itself.

I gotta go with the North American box art this time around.

Pretty similar. I chose Europe because it had more of the sketch.
