The Wii is a much-loved console, and was actually rather cute and dinky back in the day when compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Nevertheless, current-day modders and hackers often look for new ways to play the system, with last year's WiiBoy Color being a good example.
The market for shrinking the console down to Game Boy-size isn't closed yet, with StonedEdge squeezing a Wii into a Game Boy Advance SP case. It's a relatively tight fit but is smartly done; controls inside the case consist of a mix of custom buttons and Joy-Con sticks, which will be ideal for drifting in Mario Kart Wii. A neat touch is that it even has analogue triggers, taking us back to the GameCube era.
Take a look below.
It's another neat creation and might be pushing the boundaries of how small a Wii can go; you can read all about the build, also, in this forum post.

Pretty cool wana buy it
does it have pre-instaled games?
Wow, that’s seriously impressive. Shows how far we’ve come.
@GMACGAMER1234 100% no. That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.
The Wii really was the cutest console of the last few generations. Coziest UX as well. Still remember the music of each menu.
@nessisonett I wonder what the process is to get games into it? What could be cool, although prohibitively expensive for such a retro device, would be if it had a dock with a disc drive where you could load games from the disc into the handheld's onboard memory to take on the go. Of course you still have the issue of how to handle games designed around the Wiimotes.
@TheFox They’ll be loaded off a micro SD. Which you can do yourself with your own discs on a PC and is legal in most countries I’m fairly sure. As long as you aren’t sharing the copies around or anything, it’s not really any different from using your own discs.
OK, I figured it's not hard. I just never bothered with any kind of hacking on my Nintendo devices. And I don't mean "hacking" in the illegal sense, I just mean anything that goes beyond the vanilla usage of the hardware in the way Nintendo originally intended.
That's the thing we all dreamt of as a kid, having those big console titles on a handheld
I guess Nintendo finally granted us that wish in 2017 with the Switch ^^
@GMACGAMER1234 Considering how it's not for sale, it wouldn't have preinstalled games in the first place. However, seeing the size of the handheld, it would most likely use a MicroSD card, which at large enough capacities can hold multiple Wii games. This is assuming of course that you've made copies of your own Wii games and placed them on the SD Card.
I want that so bad.
Now you’re playing with power! Pocket power!!!
I wish I knew how to do stuff like this, it looks so awesome and it’s so hard to find JUST the right portable device!
NINJA APPROVES DISCRETE GAMING DEVICES
I want one. Looks great
Needs more waggle
Cool. These projects are very fun to watch. Glad to see lots of young engineers out there.
Yes, I do want one.
What is a man?
An innovative pile of secrets!
@Knuckles lol, why even pretend people are going to rip their own games
@doctorhino Because I'm one of those nobodies who backs up their own games.
@Knuckles If you can purchase a rom system and hold yourself to only roms of games you own you have more willpower than me.
The translucent look reminds me of the 90’s. I loved translucent products. Consoles. House phones. Portable consoles. Controllers. Virtual pets! I could go on and on. I never went through a new Gameboy iteration without purchasing a translucent version! 😂
@doctorhino I do this, I have everdrives and ODEs for all my old consoles but I’ll only play the roms I own, otherwise I’m not motivated to play anything as it’s too easy to get everything for free. I count virtual console games in this too though, the way I see it is I own the Rom so I’ll play it on the original console if I like.
That's incredibly cool, and exactly the kind of thing I'd buy if it were easily available. :')
Can't help it though: "... with StonedEdge squeezing a Wii into a Game Boy Advance SP case." Like, this is way too impressive as it is, but that description isn't true, is it? This is at least 50% thicker than an actual GBA SP - and pretty heavily modified. Again, ridiculously impressive, but no need to describe it as something that it isn't, right?
@outsider83 I thought you were gonna say translucent pants too, then I’d really see you’re/your nuts 😂
No but seriously, yeah I really miss that clear style of electronics. I have been wanting to buy those clear joy-con shells but I don’t want to ruin my joy-cons by mistake and have to shell out like 60-70 for a new set.
@ChromaticDracula if it helps, back in the 90’s, translucent raincoats were popular. Never got one, but I reeeeeaaaaly wanted one! 😂 The most I did was wear translucent watches. 😂
@Ulysses There has never been a system that I've enjoyed less than the Wii from an experience standpoint, yet still had games I wanted to play. Everything about it was trying and unenjoyable and it was an eye sore in the living room. Using the Wii Remotes is something I still have nightmares about! It did have a number of games I really loved though so I was incredibly torn about the system in general.
Obviously it comes down to personal preference. I know many people loved it and honestly, I wish I had liked it more. I missed out on some later life Wii hits because I just wanted to be done with it.
@GMACGAMER1234 it utilizes the SD card so you can have The Hombrew channel on it
Honestly, i'd rather have something similar to this than the Switch. Great effort.
From the video, it sounds like the guy pushed himself to the brink building that thing and he never wants to see it again! Good luck anyone wanting to pay him to build another one.
@N64-ROX I wouldn't worry too much about that. StonedEdge has been around for a while. I'm sure he'll come back with more.
@Ulysses I love the Nintendo approach to UI, I'll ever have fond memories of the songs and sound effects from Wii/DSi/3DS menus
